EarthX 2022 Inspire Through Eco-Art Competition: Plant the Seed
Rules and Guidelines
Young artists, ages 5-22, will create a piece of art, either 2-D or 3-D, that illustrates the message of the theme: Plant the Seed. Contestants can use any medium or combination of media if the work meets the size requirements designated in the Official Rules.
The goals of the competition are twofold. The first goal gives youth a voice about how they view the environmental issues in the world in which they live, whether from a local or global perspective. The second goal gives youth, through the creation of their work, the ability to raise awareness about the environmental issues important to them and move others to take action.
The artwork must address this year’s theme of Plant the Seed. The subject matter can center around different aspects of this theme. It could focus on the benefits of creating a rain garden to protect a watershed, a community garden to support an urban area, or regenerative farming to improve both water quality and climate change. One could also apply the theme to the planting of a tree to combat the effects of deforestation, increase CO2 capture or habitat security for wildlife. The idea that planting seeds for a garden promotes the health of pollinator populations could also fit into this concept. The theme could also be interpreted more figuratively to imply that like planting a seed, taking an action in connection to any environmental problem can grow into sustainable solutions. These are just a few ideas and should in no way limit the artist as to how the theme can be interpreted.
First and Second Place cash prizes will be awarded in four divisions:
- Division 1-Ages 5-9
- Division 2- Ages 10-13
- Division 3-Ages 14-18
- Division 4-Ages 19-22
- An Honorable Mention will also be recognized, but without a cash prize attached. At the sole discretion of EarthX, Divisions and Categories may be adjusted depending upon the number and types of artwork submitted for judging.
