Division II (Ages 10-13)

My piece continuously relates to the theme “Plant the seed”. The theme is demonstrated throughout the whole piece while expressing the urgent matter to stop climate change. An example of this is displayed with the seed in the burning tree where the seed is the core of the Earth. I believe planting the seed will create more trees helping consume Co2 from the atmosphere. Climate change is extremely important to me because it has the utmost effect on us and our future. Next generations will have to face our consequences, which will have a huge impact on their lifestyles and health. The environment also plays a vital role in the health and the existence of Earth as it provides clean water, purified air, healthy soil, and nutrients. I used many different elements in my art piece in order to communicate my message. My entry is colourful and contrasting. I drew people in graphite to convey them in a photo as if they are frozen and powerless. Them being melted in a sea of pollution helps stress how we are being affected. The red sky imitates the forest fires while the single tree standing on earth in the middle emulates the reducing number of trees. I hope this piece will impact those who view it in the strongest way possible. I believe it will awaken the eyes of those who simply don’t care. We need to take accountability for our actions and be the solution to the problem. I see this piece help people understand climate change in a more detailed and educated way.
