Division III (Ages 14-18)

How powerful is our speech? We are destroying our world. Year by year, the earth that we live in, the home that we share, is dying. Today, environmental issues have become one of the major issues that we have in our world, that leaders worry about. Global warming, sea levels rising, the never-ending amount of trash. We are causing the decaying of our earth, by expanding and polluting cities. When we are building another industrialized structure, we are also ruining the life which was already there, long before we were. However, that does not mean that we can't speak up. We can use the power of our voices, the freedom, and natural rights we have that allow us to voice our opinion. My piece illustrates how we can plant the seed. The seed of our voices. Our advocation against global warming is what will change our world. This will help protect our earth against the damage to our cities. Although seeds may seem tiny and insignificant sometimes, they have the potential to grow into a larger tree, with stronger roots. Our ideas will grow and grow until they have a firm root in the mind of others. The idea of how the earth we live in may die is an impending thought that many others that care about climate change, and I have. We deserve to live in a healthy world, and to breathe clean air. The future generations of us, and our family deserve this as well, which is why this is so significant to me. The seeds coming from my mouth are symbolic of the ideas that we have, so they may fly from me, and plant themselves firmly into the minds of others. I hope these seeds grow in the minds of those who view my piece.
