Division III (Ages 14-18)

In my art, the hands holding the seeds represent the action of planting seeds. The earth with the green tree represents the effect of us planting. The green and blue color in the background demonstrates how planting seeds can reverse the effects of global warming even a little bit and bring back our green planet by capturing more CO2. It is important to me because the effects of global warming are all around us. It hits close to home even more because the potential effects of global warming will be disastrous in countries such as my homeland, Bangladesh, which will soon be fully inundated due to the rise of sea levels caused by global warming. This isn’t good news because we are blessed with such a diverse planet, and deadly human actions just destroy all the valuable resources—habitats, animals, birds—and characteristics of the earth—the idea of a green, vibrant planet with distinct cold poles and diverse countries. I used watercolor to create a serene background that blended many colors to showcase the diversity of the earth, and then I used acrylic paints to paint the tree and the hands. I used acrylic because I really wanted the main subjects of the art—the tree and the hands—to pop out and to showcase how our very own hands can cause such a vibrant difference in our planet. I want my audience to realize that a simple action such as planting a seed can lead to a greater outcome in the world. I want to reinforce the fact that our planet is no longer as healthy as it used to be, and if we don’t take action soon enough, it would be too late to save our #greenearth.
