2021 - Division III (Ages 14-18)

In the year 2004, Indonesia endured the most devastating tsunami in world history. While the loss of life, injury, and property from this widespread and cataclysmic event is horrendous and deeply shocking what is even more shocking is the complete disregard Americans have for tsunami devastation. Since, tsunamis rarely affect the US, we don’t take into account the immense hardships tsunamis cause on the environment and lives of those affected. In most cases, whenever destruction occurs, there is a sense of mindfulness and "making the best of the situation" attitude taken into account. Although distracting our minds doing something other than deal with the current state of the environment can help produce less stress about the present, it brings more problems unsolved for the future. This is why we must take action with our environment now because there is no time like the present.
