Division III (Ages 14-18)

I chose to draw a seed that has been planted in dirt, and the process of how it sprouts up above the ground into a thriving plant. The more seeds planted on earth, means the more oxygen produced to help maintain the atmosphere. Seeds have a biological and economic importance. They bring nutrients such as large amounts of protein, starch, and oil and help the development of plants and humans. Production of our primary food sources come from seeds. Plants are helpful in so many ways including maintaining the ozone layer that helps protect earth from damaging radiation. It takes a whole 300 trees to balance out the amount of pollution one human produces in a lifetime. I used colored pencils to draw my art with the colors of soil, the seed, the roots, the plant, and sky, to properly represent the planting of a seed. My artwork was made to be straight forward, so that when someone sees it, they will understand the message I was intending to spread. The idea of it is so that people realize how important it is to plant seeds, because they grow into such magical and majestic creations that help our planet. The whole process is truly inspiring, and must be shared.
