Division II (Ages 10-13)

In this art piece I have added a lot of elements to fit the theme “Plant the seed.” Much like a seed is hidden beneath the earth's surface, like many of the problems our planet faces are hidden from most people. The main concept of my idea is that we think the world is beautiful on the outside and that we are doing everything right, but taking a deeper look inside, we realize that we are dealing with problems such as deforestation, melting of the polar ice caps, water and air pollution. This is a huge problem around the world that needs to be solved. I want to fix this for the well being of me, and kids of the future. This project uses many of the “Elements of Art'' to demonstrate the plastic usage, air pollution, deforestation and more to show this world-wide problem. The colors show that the air is thick and grey, filled with pollution harmful to human, plant, and animal health. The shapes display plastic waste that pollutes our oceans and endangers sea life. The artistic lines of the trees represent deforestation and a loss of critical plant life. Texture is used in this project to represent the melting of the polar ice caps, an indicator of global warming. In conclusion, I hope this will impact people of all ages and the ways they view the world with the goal to “plant a seed” in their mind, and for them to strive to make a change in the world. Hopefully everyone that sees this will discover these problems, and not let it grow into this bigger situation.
