The environmental issues shown in my artwork, Cry of the Earth, are about pollution in the ocean, overfishing, and global warming. To me, “Plant the Seed” means more than planting trees. It means planting the idea of taking better care of the Earth in our mind. Pollution in the ocean, overfishing, and global warming are important issues because they not only impact humans but also animals. Animals share the Earth with us. Plastic waste which can’t decompose in the ocean hurts many species of marine life. They think the plastic waste is food and it fills up their stomachs. They can’t digest the plastic waste or consume anymore food. In addition, oil pollution is dangerous since it smothers animals with feathers and fur, such as birds and sea otters. Their respiratory, immune, and cardiac systems can be compromised. The unfortunate result for them is usually suffering and death. Moreover, overfishing by human leads to imbalance in the food web and loss of other marine life. Global warming also impacts humans and animals on earth. Factories produce 23% of the greenhouse gas in our atmosphere. The greenhouse gas traps the heat from the sun, making our planet warmer than any recorded history. The results of global warming are unpredictable weather changes, poor air quality, acidic oceans, wildlife extinction, and so much more. My art work, Cry of the Earth, is created using a digital art application called Procreate. The warm color background represents the rising temperature on Earth due to global warming. The girl who is holding the melting Earth has an ocean of hair, polluted with oil and plastic waste. She is crying for all the species struggling on Earth. I hope my artwork, Cry of the Earth, plants the idea of taking better care of earth in everyone’s mind.
