Even when people age, they yearn for bygone days when a child’s perception of the world was wholesome and harmonious. The image shows a young girl blowing bubbles that turn into seeds – vital to all life on earth, providing necessary sustenance for bees and butterflies, which continue to spread life. By planting a seed, a ripple effect for life begins, impacting other living organisms to adhere to their genetic potential for life. During the pandemic, my family often stayed at home, which allowed us to do things which were otherwise impossible. For instance, I began planting seeds in our garage. When those plants provided us with vegetables for food, I began to value life from a different perspective. Seeing how life began and ended in full cycle, all in relation to how much I devoted my energy to planting seeds and growing the plants, I had a new appreciation for life. I used acrylic, a medium that dries and isn’t as flexible as oil. This idea of “finality” both intrigued and saddened me, as seeds themselves can spread and germinate over and over again. But I also realized that beauty can be held in high regard because something may come to an end. Therefore, I wanted to create vibrance with acrylic – a colorful medium which has its own definition of “finality”. The viewers would be reminded of the significance of seeds, which are barely visible and even undetected by a naked eye. In urban settings, people are generally unaware of what occurs in the natural environment even when seeds are ubiquitous and in flux, sometimes transported by birds, wind, or other natural forces, all these miraculous events happening all around us. I hope we can “see” that seismic events in the world are begun by seemingly “insignificant” seeds.
