Division II (Ages 10-13)

Have you ever picked up a seed or a seed pod and looked at it closely? Have you ever noticed how intricately designed each seed is and how well adapted it is for its' environment? Seeds and their pods are miraculous and beautiful. Each has their own shape, size and color which is adapted to use wind, water, soil and even in some cases fire. Have you ever wondered what the seed in your hand will become? A tree that produces oxygen and cleans the air all while providing shade, a plant that will make your dinner delicious or a flower that will bloom and support bees and butterflies that will help pollinate other plants. Seeds are the cornerstone that supports all other life. By planting seeds we are helping the earth stay healthy. I used clay so that I could emphasize the intricate beauty of seeds and acrylic paints to show how seeds come in all colors. In the center I showed a tree arising from a seed pod because trees have such an important role in our environment. For the stage I used cardboard to show how essential seeds are to Earth. I hope my entry encourages others to take a closer look at seeds and admire their beauty and their importance to our environment and to humans. My hope is that people appreciate how mighty seeds are and plant them in whatever corner of soil they have to help keep the Earth and us healthy.
