Division III (Ages 14-18)

The world we live in is constantly changing, positively and negatively. We have gotten so used to doing whatever we want that in times of crisis, we don’t take action and let things happen naturally. Due to this, our world is changing negatively at a rapid pace. The future of the world we live in is in our hands; why are we not doing anything to protect it? By abusing and neglecting the environment, in turn, we are only making the situation worse not only for ourselves, as well as everyone else. Not taking care of our environment can lead to future generations not having the privileges that we have now, such as clean water and stable electricity. My artwork is set sometime into the future; in my artwork, the little girl is standing facing the buildings while holding an umbrella. The little girl is shocked to see all the damage that we carelessly caused through our inconsiderate actions; due to the neglect of the environment, the rain that pelts down is acid rain. The little girl uses the umbrella to prevent the rain from injuring her. Since there was so much neglect and abuse, the world turned on their citizens. The plant represents the chance that there’s still some hope that the world can become a better place. By seeing this, I hope you take into consideration that not only are you jeopardizing your future; you’re also injuring the future for everyone else. We have to take responsibility for our actions, and we have to change for our future.
