This piece of artwork relates to this year's theme, Plant the Seed, by showing that if we do not start efforts to stop harming the planet, we might eventually kill ourselves in the end. The amount of plastic and deforestation by the use of wildfires is large and is detrimental to our planet's health. This issue is important because not only does plastic harm wildlife like marine wildlife, it has also created an island that is twice the size of Texas in the year 2018. Deforestation is also a huge problem as it increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This greenhouse gas is known to trap heat in the planet, causing global warming. Global warming has started to melt the polar ice caps, although they will eventually melt completely. With smaller polar ice caps, this brings a threat to the wildlife in the poles, such as polar bears not being able to catch their food source. The melting of the polar ice caps will also cause the sea levels to rise, and our coastline cities will be flooded and inhabitable. The Amazon Rainforest, a great example of deforestation, used to be a great carbon sink or a place that can absorb carbon through photosynthesis. Unfortunately, it is slowly starting to dwindle in its carbon sink status. With this, our efforts to plant a seed can help regain its carbon sink status. Next, I have used digital painting along with drawing to illustrate how humans will cause their own downfall. Rendering a person in rags and scraped knees indicate that we will also raise our power bills to the point where we will freeze in the cold. Finally, those who view this entry may have a new or different perspective on their efforts to help the planet.
