“Plant the Seed” can be taken literally or figuratively. My painting focuses on the figurative aspect. While individuals working to create a better environment is helpful, the biggest impact will come when everyone is on board. We need to educate people on climate change and the effects man makes on the environment. I chose to paint a depiction of a farm. Each brush stroke represents one person. Individually each stroke is just a small part, but when they all come together they create the big picture. A component of my painting is the bridge; the bridge represents the connection of ideas, communication, and liminality. Under the bridge, there is a ditch that is almost dried up. One of the principles of art is movement, the ditch symbolizes taking action and moving forward after being educated and developing ideas. I hope that when someone sees my painting they will be reminded of something important to them and want to help save the environment so that the future generations can enjoy similar memories. I want people to see that they can make a change in the environment without drastically altering their life. We shouldn’t need to guilt people into making a change. We need to lead by example so other people can “forge a path.” When we plant the seed and educate ourselves, other people can learn and grow too.
