We had a responsibility. As residents of this Earth, we had the responsibility to protect and cherish our home. But, we failed miserably. In order to restore the environment that we destroyed, we must begin by planting the seed of knowledge in the minds of those who are less informed. Hopefully with education will come sympathy and inspiration to make a difference for the animals dying from increasing temperature, for people suffering from pollution effects, and for our world which is being torn apart to sustain the human race. My artwork, titled Passing the Seed, illustrates a mother with a crown planting a seed in her son’s mind. The green crown made of vines represents the mother’s knowledge of sustainability and climate change, and the seed is the physical representation of the mother sharing her knowledge with her son. The son is shown with no green on his body, unlike his mother, because he needs to learn about environmentalism to be truly “green.” Teaching others about these issues is beyond important to me because I am in love with our Earth, and it hurts me to see us deplete it over time. I believe our environment does infinite things to help us survive and flourish, and we take it for granted. Through the creation of this artwork, I hope to inspire someone to educate themselves or “pass the seed” of knowledge to their loved ones about the environmental issues we are fighting. My goal is to evoke change through education, so we can start becoming a more sustainable population and finally follow through with our responsibility to our planet.
