2021 - Division II (Ages 10-13)

In my art piece, the environmental element is the earth inside a plastic bag. This is related to the theme of no time to waste by showing a human taking the earth in a plastic bag to the trash. This is a tragic interpretation of how we, humans are destroying the environment slowly. The reason why I enrolled myself in this is that this is a soul wrecking issue around the world. People’s trash accumulation and factories’ greenhouse gasses, is destroying our planet at an alarming rate. The massive amount of extraction from the earth’s natural resources, which are forest, water, mountains, and animals, at the current rate society is extracting them will eventually leave nothing left to extract. While all these things are happening around our planet, the government sits, watches us, and encourages people to keep doing it. Antarctica is melting! The forests are on the fire! And the cause of all those agonizing destructions is...humans. That is why I painted a human taking the world in a plastic bag... I hope that my painting can raise awareness between people and touch their hearts with the world’s history. I hope that humans can realize that what they are doing is destroying our home. The technique I used for my artwork is done in pencil with colored pencils. This and more are the causes for our destruction and pain… That is why my artwork is called soul wrecking.
