2021 - Division III (Ages 14-18)

When I was younger one of my pastimes was looking through magazines. The newest trends and flashy colors always caught and held my attention. Now looking back what I thought was a meaningless afternoon was actually exactly what the fast fashion industry wanted. Mass produced cheap clothes meant to be worn once or twice before going out of style or losing shape. In my piece the small pnj bird is meant to portray the media and the balloon bird the manufacturer. You think you'll get what you see, a real bird, but what you received is a plastic replica. How much longer until what is all we have from animals. Fast fashion is devastating because it causes much more harm than people think. Fast fashion is a silent killer. Preventing clothes and plastic from entering the landfill before it’s too late is the best solution. When others see my painting and understand the meaning. I hope they think twice about their purchases.
