Division II (Ages 10-13)

In the acrylic painting “Aspiration,” I expressed the topic “plant the seed” with a wax candle. The seed sapling represents the wick as it is slowly dripping away, symbolizing the limited time we possess before the earth loses its plant life due to global warming and climate change. The candle exists in a partly corrupted, partly tranquil world that emphasizes the consequences that will occur if we ignore the alarming changes that are occurring in our world. As the sapling starts melting the wax, it turns to fresh water and fixes the crevasses of earth. I got the idea of characters stepping out of their paintings from the exceedingly well known “Christina’s World, 1948 (Andrew Wyeth)” and “The Sower, 1850 ()” The sower is walking out from his frame to help out the desperate world and Christina is attempting to escape her world that has already been corrupted by the horrors of climate change and pollution. The other important element is the infamous “melted” clock drawn by Salvador Dali that is located on the olive tree inside the lightbulb. It focuses on the beauty of nature and again highlights the restricted time we have to stop the spread of pollution. I hope this painting will bring attention to other additional onlookers.
