Division III (Ages 14-18)

When God created man in Genesis, He gave us responsibility over the planet He made for us. This responsibility includes taking care of our resources. One such resource is trees. Trees are important to our environment because they provide clean air as well as homes for other plants and animals. Besides this, many people find joy and peace while hiking through forests. Despite the importance of trees, deforestation is a major problem in some areas. Preserving the trees in our environment can sound like a tough mountain to climb, but it is possible. The first step is to take a step and plant a seed. I mean that literally and metaphorically, because there are multiple ways to preserve our trees besides just planting more of them. We just need to start somewhere. That’s how it goes for anything in life. I snuck a ukulele, ballet shoes, and a paintbrush into my picture to express how universal my theme is. If you want to make a change or do anything really, you just need to take the first step. Planting a seed or taking a step, it all starts with one little action that leads to something bigger. I sketched most of my picture in plain pencil, and added colored details to express the hope and action with brush pens. I hope looking at my picture can motivate people. I want to inspire them to be brave and take action.
