Division III (Ages 14-18)

My work is about climate change. It addresses our quickly melting ice caps, the smoke that takes over our blue skies, and the fires that torch our beloved trees during the hot days. The piece relates to the Plant The Seed theme in the way that it shows how we as a whole need to talk about climate change because we need to take care of our Earth. It gives us the ability to breathe, and experience its glory, so why shouldn't we take care of it? I have seen the dried, torched plants that were once green with life. I have had to stay at home because of the dangerously high levels of smoke. Let us not forget the melting ice caps. The poor animals that we love so dear will perish due to their reducing habitat. I believe it is time to address climate change and one of the ways we can do that is through art. When people see this piece created with bright colors of acrylic, fiery touches of pearlescent paint and smoky details put in place by paint pens, I want them to truly see the way things are in the state of our world. I want them to recognize that all these effects are not only caused by nature, but are primarily caused by human activities. Burning fossil fuel inflates the greenhouse gasses that trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere. Wildfires that are even more extreme when caused by humans create smoke that pierces the ozone layer of Earth’s atmosphere. Not only this but many more examples of climate torture are destroying our Earth. Isn't it so obvious that our Earth is becoming a melting pot? Melting because of climate change?
