Division III (Ages 14-18)

Both humanity and nature are beautiful yet fragile. Both are tethered to each other and cause great effects on one another. Through humanity’s desire to grow and create (the man-made crystals and pop tabs), the environment reacts by overtaking what humanity has left behind (the moss and the rising sea). We only have one Earth and as the days continue, I can see the effects of climate change slowly transforming my day-to-day life. From my daily walk to classes to passing by the cornfield and soy fields leveled by monstrous winds. I watch as the endless fields I once played in turn to soot from dust storms and blizzards. To communicate my message, I used pieces of glass from a chandelier, disregarded trash, and oil-based face paint. I see this entry affecting those who view it by giving the idea of the Earth crying. Because of the half-human half almost ethereal feel of the figure, I think that the viewer can find themselves connecting to the pain that the figure is feeling.
