Division III (Ages 14-18)

My painting “No Tree Generation” depicts the difference between our current society and a potential future, which is represented by a mother and her daughter. The time period in this painting is in the future, where the environment is destroyed because of the wildfires and pollution we humans cause by deforestation. The environment portrayed in the globe reflects our current society today, where the trees are still active. The mother and the daughter show two different emotions when reacting to the globe. The Mother responds with tears and sorrow as she reminisces the vibrant colors of the forest and feels sorry for her child for living in this horrible environment. However, the daughter is smiling because she is fascinated to learn that the planet was once full of green since she grew up witnessing the polluted society shown in my work. The mother also portrays our current situation because we are living in an environment still full of trees, yet we are taking this for granted. Although human activity is not the only cause of deforestation, we still cut down trees because of our greed for agriculture and urbanization. The trees will not last forever and could end up like the future society presented in my painting, and our future generations may also experience a tragedy like the daughter. I hope my work can spread awareness for protecting our trees by starting with “Plant the Seed."
