Division III (Ages 14-18)

In my artwork, I wanted to display a theme of togetherness yet uniqueness across two different circumstances in which one person devotes much of their free time to doing this whereas one kind of picked it up as a project to raise the plant right outside. I wanted to show a paradox where one is an expert and has raised many forms of vegetation compared to another person that has invested their effort into trying something new with more of an emotional investment due to this being their first plant they've ever raised even willing out to go in the rain to make sure it's not getting overwatered or hurt by the harsh and heavy rain. Planting the seed means more than just literally planting seeds, it means putting yourself out there and working for the good of the environment and for the general good of others. Through emotional and physical work you yourself begin to love nature and can truly appreciate the world and the colors around you. Especially in a age littered with those that value technology and urbanization so much, I believe it's important to just go outside on a nice or even a rainy day to just appreciate the sounds and the feelings of nature and return to the more emotional sides of ourselves that often get lost in daily life. I used a vast contrast between the gray of the pencil with colors of the marker to make a clear visual element that nature gives our lives color and meaning and that at the end of the day will always be there for you. I just want those that view my piece to understand the amount of joy you can get from even just one flower or from a whole garden of them.
