Division III (Ages 14-18)

Plant the seed, save our planet. It is not only the very seed we planted in the soil, it may also be the idea, the thought, and the hope that make us to do something small or big to protect our environment to make it a safer and healthier place. I hope my work will be like a small seed growing on the mind, after people see it, they will be impressed by the comparison of two different worlds, so that they will realize the importance of the sustainable solutions for the current worsening pollutions on earth. My work portrays two eyes, the eyes of our mother earth. The right eye depicts a scene with unfiltered emissions from fossil fuels, harming the delicate atmosphere and animals. The left eye displays a vibrant environment after measures are taken to control the pollutions. In the view, trees are grown, and nature and humanity co-exist. The overall theme is to show that although there is pollution and contamination due to human activity on planet Earth, there is still hope if we do the changes. Tiny seed, small change, but eventually it will become something remarkable and flourishing. Earth has “seen” all that has happened, continues to “observe” the present, and will “foresee” the future. In the work, I used charcoal and watercolor to express my ideas. Charcoal can emphasize the atmosphere of pollution, darkness, and hopeless. Watercolor gives a feeling of green, peace, and harmony. I believe my work will give people the vison contrast and impact so as to recognize the theme of “Plant the Seed”.
