Division III (Ages 14-18)

With the current state of our earth, sustainable methods of living are necessary to preserve our lives as we know it. Through my piece I wanted to showcase my own interpretation of a hydroponic conservatory in an urban area. The large surface are of the mushroom shaped roof draws rainwater into the system which then uses gravity to power the current that waters the plants. Members of the community would have access to these sustainable produce in the puffball fungus inspired cafeteria. Implementing ways to conserve plants in industrious places such as cities not only for our air quality and diet but also for the future health of our earth. I was inspired by fungi because they take something that is dying and bring it new life and purpose. They demonstrate how nature wastes nothing which is the goal of sustainable living. I see the potential that hydroponic plants can reverse some of the damage we have done to the environment and are worth a shot at implementing into our communities.
