2021 - Division III (Ages 14-18)

Human beings consider themselves to be royalty on earth, reigning over its flora and fauna for the sake of their own benefit and comfort. Thus, we have become desensitized to actions of polluting and contamination, disregarding the severity of environmental issues. However, there is another form of life beyond human sight that is slowly disappearing because of our insensitive actions. By depicting the royal cards that signify careless actions enacted by people, I wanted to bring attention to the plight of marine animals that are suffering from the uncontrollable flow of man-made pollutants into our lakes, rivers, and oceans. With a brush and acrylic paint, I decided to expand my passion for art and use it as a wakeup call for those who have been vandalizing the environment with their negligent behavior. I am a firm believer that the smallest actions can make the biggest difference; the sooner people begin to change their behavior, the sooner we can see positive change in our environment.
