2021 - Division I (Ages 5-9)

My work shows the monarch butterfly and bumblebees, threatened species that I want to save. Butterflies and bees are pretty, but more importantly, they pollinate plants to make them grow. Without pollinators, many types of fruits and vegetables will not grow. My work shows a pollinator garden of milkweed, which monarchs need to survive, and flowering plants. It is important that people plant more milkweed as soon as possible to save the monarch butterfly. People don’t plant milkweed because it looks dead. I want people who see my project to appreciate the beauty and importance of monarch butterflies and to know that milkweed is crucial to their survival. Bumblebees need flowering plants. I hope people will plant milkweed as soon as they can this spring. If we don’t save them, there could be no more monarch butterflies or bumblebees.
