Division II (Ages 10-13)

Everywhere you look, you can see the devastation of the natural environment. With increases in manufacturing, comes increases in pollution: pollution of the air, pollution of the land, and pollution of the waters. By ‘planting the seed’ you can do your part to help make a difference. A seed is so little but over time it will grow into a tree. Your seed can germinate to become a plant of hope - hope for a better, greener environment and hope for a better future. If everyone ‘planted a seed’, the combined effort would result in huge environmental changes. By using tones of black and white in my entry, I wanted to show the bleakness of the environment affected by pollution and show people that if nothing is done, this will be the future of our planet. The vivid blues and greens in the centre of my drawing contrast against the grey background to portray an image of hope for a healthier and greener environment. I hope that my entry will plant a seed in people’s minds that they can make a difference if we all work together.
