Division II (Ages 10-13)

I included environmental elements in my work to reflect this year's theme, Plant The Seed, by including pollution and other environmental problems in our world today. The Earth is lamenting this, but her tears represent the need for change that will water our seed of hope. These environmental issues, more specifically air pollution, water pollution, and increased wildfires are important to me because they directly impact my health. For example, wildfires and air pollution release harmful substances that affect the quality of the air we breathe, while water pollution affects the quality of our drinking water. I used alcohol markers, ink pens, and gel pens to create my work. I intend for this piece to have a two-fold meaning; to raise awareness of the desperate state of our world today, represented by the teardrop of the Earth, but at the same time that drop of water also represents that each person can put their drop in the bucket towards a better future.
